Fishman Island

Fishman Island was the home of the fishmen and merfolk. It serves as an underwater gateway to the New World for those who do not wish (or are not legally permitted) to cross over the Red Line above. Though it is literally directly under the main seat of power of the World Goverment, it was ruled rather independently by the Royal Family, until the latest events. It is also notoriously difficult to reach, with only 30% of the ships surviving the journey and now even a lesser percent surviving what it has become. It is encased in a giant bubble, allowing human visitors to breathe. For World Nobles, it is also one of the few places in the world where their ability to summon a Marine Admiral as they please is not so easy to accomplish, and in current situation, it became close to impossible.

Fishman Island is an underwater island which dwells 10,000 meters below sea level in a giant hole that goes under the Red Line at the bottom of a deep trench. The island resides in a giant double-layered bubble floating above the sea floor, seemingly filled with about half water and half reef. Ryugu Palace rests in a smaller bubble on top of the main island's bubble. It is illuminated by the Sunlight Tree Eve.

The island existed as a stable monarchy, but after the death of last ruler, a regency conflict began - with the contender side being made up of powerful families with ties to strong pirate crews, trying to impose their rule in place of the true heir - turning into a full scale conflict over the span of two lat years. The conflict was finally ended with the victory of the Prince loyalists, supported by the Fallen Crew and the exile of the nobles - but the bad defenses left the place hopeless when met with an invasion of alien, octopi like creatures that massacred thousands of citizens and caused a mass evacuation, turning the Island into a domain of death. Not long later, a combined military response of Marine Headquarters [a force under command of Admiral Kamaitachi], Ryuguu Palace army and Shichibukai Kalen Rokuro managed to disperse the main force of invaders and took the Fishman cove back from the alien creatures. Since then, intensive renovation works began, but most buildings still appear damaged or covered by greenish crystalline growths. Due to the support shown, World Goverment's influence has risen aswell.
