Beiying Island Oriental_Steampunk_by_superspacemonkey

Beiying Island is positioned upon the second half of the ocean known as the Grand Line; the 'New World'. It is located not far from the ever shrinking territory of Jean Beckett, yet far enough away that most of the attention of pirates is brought upon his weakened territory rather than this nearby island. Despite this, Beiying is a rather interesting island. It holds strong presence in both the past and the future, through the two factions residing within it following either the martial arts of the past or reaching for a future through technology.

Beiying Island Empty Geography

Post by Suzushiro Soten Thu Jan 30, 2014 9:46 pm

What is it like?
Well, Beiying Island can be said to be a large expanse of land. However, due to a surprisingly large population there is not much space. The island generally is quite close to sea-level, yet in the north there are a collection of mountains whom are generally covered in snow. It can be said that this island suffers from an unusual climate as many islands within the Grand Line do, the north is forever in winter whilst the south is forever in a pleasant spring. Thus, you can find most of the Martial Artists far in the north, whilst the inventors remain in the south where it is comfortable for them to complete their art.

What key points are there on the Island?
The Mountains
For those brave, or foolish, enough the mountains deep in the north are a perfect place to either train or test your mettle. Most of the warriors there are trained martial artists in a huge variety of different styles, but be warned that none of them are weak. There are few buildings here, and most of those are dojo's with only the most dedicated of souls attending. Thus, be sure to pack some warm clothes and food... As the animals here may be edible but even the smallest of creatures will try to rip your face off if you get too close.

Yanghai
One of the rare places with life in the center of the island, between the raging winter of the north and the ever pleasant spring of the south. It can be said that this location is locked in an ever present autumn, but it is a wonderful place to visit. The homes are all old fashioned mansions of what we would call 'eastern' design. They incorporate advances in technology to keep the homes always at a pleasant temperature. This city is one for the wealthy, having much beauty in the crimson leaves of the half dead trees all year around.

Shenhong
This is the city to the south filled with inventors. Here you can ask for almost anything to be made, and they'll likely do it. The level of technology is astounding, but people here can be won over easily by seeing someone with an equal level of love for advancement or with great creations of their own. The city has multiple taverns, lodgings and restaurants that all feature the higher level of technology to make life more comfortable. The place usually has large scrapyards and other places to acquire spare parts for cheap prices, thus making it a technology lovers heaven. Most of the citizens here are really fond of the Mecha Pirates after Akira met a lot of them an proclaimed that he'd look after this island.

The Coast
Despite these peoples lives holding away, refining their skills in their chosen field... The coasts are well guarded, between martial artists at the north and high tech weaponry at the south, with a mixture of the two forming the central coastline... It's quite a dangerous thing to enter unless you have positive reasoning for being here or are already known by the citizens of the island. They wish to retain their peace and continue their professions no matter what, which is why this situation has formed. Thus, as much as they'd love to let you play on their beaches, they won't.
